Malaria. A horrible disease that when infected can cause severe sickness for weeks, and possibly result to death. The only good thing that came out of malaria? Air conditioning. In the early 1800s, people realized malaria was more common when the weather was hot and humid. So in order to fight the disease they started cooling the rooms of the infected. I assume the infected and the non-infected liked the cool air so much- not only because it kept them away from malaria infecting mosquitoes but more so because it’s amazing - that the idea of air conditioning advanced. So much, that many of us have taken this beautiful invention for granted.
Currently, it is 94 degrees in Boston and I am sitting in a train that epitomizes hot and humid. Call me a spoiled brat, but i merely represent someone born and raised in the material world. And well, if air conditioning was invented in the 1830s..I think it’s about time we have it working in trains.
No one wants another malaria outbreak. No one. Not even if that means being in a nice, air-conditioned room, having everyone attend to your needs and lying on a soft, comfy bed- body underneath the sheets and face against the cold pillow. No one. Well, then again, there’s always someone.
